WHEN JESUS WEPT O'ER THE TOMB

1.   When Jesus wept o’er the tomb, where Lazarus was laid

He wept for his creation, the work his hands had made,

It was not meant to be thus, man was not made for death,

We were not made to suffer, nor breathe a final breath.

2.   It was our Sin condemned us, to suffer and to die,

Yet in Christ’s human weeping, and in his anguished cry,

The bars of death are broken, the prisoners set free,

and in his bitter passion, ‘twas death that bent the knee.

3.   O weep for me Lord Jesus, so wracked with sin and vice,

Plead to thy Father for me, that with thee I might rise.

O grant to me the vict’ry, which by thy death was won,

And bid me come to thee, Lord, when all my days are done.

4.   All praise to God the Father, the fountainhead of grace,

All glory to the Son, who wept in that dark place,

Where Lazarus was laid down, in dark and lonely tomb,

Praise to the Holy Spirit, who raises us from gloom.
