IN THE SILENCE OF THE GARDEN

1.       In the silence of the garden

where the Lord set down to prayer,

watch and wait with Him an hour

see His sorrows all laid bare.

2.       While th’ Apostles sleep in silence,

watch and pray with Christ the Lord.

Drink with Him that bitter chalice,

cup of life for thee outpoured.

3.       With him witness all the anguish

          of the rebel world below.

Weep with Him for all our sorrows,

bear with Him sin’s awful blow.

4.       Wait as He awaits His glory

          won through suff’ring’s bitter trail.

Tell all now the glorious story,

of His love which does not fail.

5.       On the mount of Olives off’ring,

“Let thy will not mine be done”

           servant to His Father’s choosing,

           servant King and loyal Son.

6.        Rise and follow as He’s taken.

Go with Him to face the Cross.

Follow in His way of sorrows,

counting now all else as loss.

7.        Glory be to God the Father,

Glory be to Christ His Son,

Glory to the Holy Ghost now,

           Trinity, blest three in One.
